Let Super Aero 45

Recommended Posts

As a test to see what can be built in 24 hours (thought I'd better give it a go in light of my proposed 24hour build competition - see the custom Designs forum) I'm building a Let Super Aero 45.

Czech built twin with a variable prop and a large glass domed nose that makes it a great twin trainer and good for general learning.

After a total of 8 hours spent on it I've got the flight model dialed in, the fuselage shape right and I've done the initial blender object modelling files for:
Wings
Tail
Fuselage
Engine Nacelles

In the remaining time I want to get as much detail as possible done.
Next are:
wheels and gear doors
animating the control surfaces
texturing and liveries.
cockpit of some sort (leaving this til last as I've no idea how much of my 24hour budget I'll have left for this - might end up being a simple 2D panel).

here are some pics:

Anyway as this is a strictly time limited project I'll upload her fairly soon - but I think I may upgrade her once I have time with a full 3D cockpit as she's a lovelly little thing with lots of character and she handles perfectly straight out on her first test flight! but that will have to wait a while til the 727 is done.

Don't worry I'll be back working on the 727s as soon as i've done the 24hours on her.

More as I have it.

Here is a quick pic from inside blender to show her with the cocpit windows all cut out and the glass removed (in a seperate layer). Just got the little one at the back to do now and the nose light and thats the glass done.

Note also the finished MLG (in it's 24hour basic form - not going to do the complex linkages in this version.... but the full version will have).

The Props are just the imports from Planemaker - I've had them in there as reference points but I'm not modelling them in blender - they can stay in Planemaker as it saves effort that wouldn't otherwise gain much.

More as the build progresses (total time now is about 10 hours)

I agree with Amerrir, what a wonderfully characterful GA plane; please go on and do a good 3D cockpit, I'm really looking forward to this [and Khamsin's Ercoupe 415]. Its so refreshing in this mean self-regarding World for people to volunteer their time and talent altruistically. Thankyou.

Yes, very cool. And if the 3D cockpit will slow up delivery, please feel free to release this beauty with a 2D 'pit first.
As you may know, X-Plane already has a sweet little Let L200 in 8.6. Your plane will be a very welcome addition.

Well the pic above is about where I got to after 24hours of development with a very basic 2D cockpit and simple textures.... I've decided that she is such a nice little thing and is so close to finishing that I'm going to finish her and then put her on my download site for about £5 ($7) per download.

I've been working on the textures and these will be very high detail (currently on about 35 layers in Photoshop for the fuselage but I still have a lit to do.)

The cockpit is getting a full 3D workover and I have a lot of the basic instruments already modelled.

The download should include three versions of this aircraft:
Let Aero Ae-45
Let Super Aero Ae-45S (the one in the pics above)
Let Aero Ae-145

They are all very similar with mainly engine spec, nacelle and instrument (particularly navigation) changes.

I'll also try to provide more than one livery and may be willing to provide a livery development kit with a Photoshop file with all the effects etc in on merged layer and then paint and colour outlines for you to edit underneath that.

Anyway more as soon as I have it... 3D cockpit is what I'm working on at the moment.

If you're interested, I have some good shots of a 145 in Polish Air Ambulance livery & could work on a paint for you.

Good idea to charge Mr. Badger. I don't feel completely comfortable downloading freeware which is often better/ more bug-free than some payware. If developers felt more appreciated, they would be more motivated to turn out quality planes and we would all gain. However there does seem to be a fair amount of aggressive flack that goes with the territory of payware......Looking forward to try her out. Best of luck to you. Although the tail is different it reminds me of the Miles Gemini.

Amerrir

Yeah the Polish Air Ambulance was one of my planned liveries, I've got a few photos of it from the air museum in krakow.
The livery is very similar to the current livery I'm working with (same paint pattern but with different colours and a red cross on each wing) so that will very easy to create.

Excellent, I look forward to seeing it. The aircraft is in a great condition for reference pictures, not shiny and polished, but also not in the sad state of many of their external exhibits.
