cw7
A new review of Leading Edge Simulations Beechcraft Sundowner and Duchess has been posted by XP10Reviews. Check out this link for our latest review: http://xplane10.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/leading-edge-review.pdf Also, images of the Duchess at KMPI, our new scenery development project, can be found at: http://xp10designgroup.wordpress.com/ There are some nice shots of Dan Klaue's ERJ-140 in these images, and some new buildings we are developing for our next scenery projects: KMMH Mammoth/Yosemite, CA, and 0Q5 Shelter Cove, CA. And look for our review of Carenado's Mooney M-20-J soon!
Warp10
Nice work, I was just thinking of buying the Sundowner and looking for some info, so this review is much appreciated.
capnsully
No problems, thats why we do them, to assist people deciding what to do. The sunny is hyper realistic, and definitely not a 'basic' very easy to fly ga
rocket man
capnsully, your remark asserting the Sundowner as not a "'basic' very easy to fly ga" must pertain to the x-plane model. I earned my PPL at the University of Illinois Institute of Aviation in this fixed gear trainer. A terrific aircraft with well-mannered student flight characteristics. You should have been aboard during my short field, soft field practices to affirm this. p.s. enjoy your spirited reviews. Keep them coming. Cheers. capnsully
Yep, I was referring to the sim, not real life. compared to a lot of other aircraft, this is definitely not like flying on 'rails'
Warp10
I am also curious what you guys will have to say about the Carenado's Mooney coming this week. I am passionately looking forward to it, so I will probably buy it the moment it's released. I mean they have an excellent reputation on Microsoft Flight simulator, at least according to some people, so I hope there won't be any catch ... capnsully
Good point, Chip Is already researching in readiness. I believe that this might be our most important review ever - can a famous msfs developer waltz in and better the bleeding edge of xplane? what might it mean if a native xplane betters it, in handling or eyecandy? Can't wait for it!
Warp10
Neither do I. Well, there is definitely going to be a lot of passionate discussions and (hopefully) some uniform wows ... While it may take them a while to get acquainted with X-Plane, I am sure that in the end, they will get it right ...
cw7
Certainly the exterior, if it makes the translation to X-Plane intact, will be ground breaking. The images I've seen on their website of the 33/Bonanza are just gorgeous, but this is one of their latest efforts. The rumors we've picked up on concerning the X-P version of the Mooney are that it has a fantastic exterior but with a few surprising rough spots, and that the panel won't be considered ground-breaking (like the BK-117 or the CRJ-200) but is very accurately detailed. I wish we could get an early copy so we could have a review ready for you on release day, but I promise I'll get it out ASAP. I've been talking to some folks who worked on the factory floor back in the 60s and 70s too, just to get some extra insight into Mooney for this review. Stand by, then. Hope it gets released soon. We're looking forward to this one ourselves!
Warp10
The rumors we've picked up on concerning the X-P version of the Mooney are that it has a fantastic exterior but with a few surprising rough spots, and that the panel won't be considered ground-breaking (like the BK-117 or the CRJ-200) but is very accurately detailed.
Really? You mean like the quality of the exterior and interior won't be as high as their FSX version? That would surprise me unpleasantly. I would also be wondering why, but I am sure that in transition from DirectX to OpenGL in X-Plane, you can find some technobabble to justify it ... Nevertheless, if they could maintain the quality of what I have seen in FSX version, I will be more than satisfied ...
I wish we could get an early copy so we could have a review ready for you on release day, but I promise I'll get it out ASAP.
Oh, that would be great, but life is not perfect and I am sure you're doing the best you can ... I have also found this guy's post which is interesting: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showtopic=47091&st=64 He also talks about comparison with the real thing and finds the model to be just a sophisticated toy. Anyway, it's one person's opinion and I don't know if he is talking about limitation of this particular plane or the limits of PC flight simulation in general ... This week is going to be really interesting ... Anyway, if Mooney sucks, at least we do have the Sundowner, don't we?
amerrir
The rumors we've picked up on concerning the X-P version of the Mooney are that it has a fantastic exterior but with a few surprising rough spots, and that the panel won't be considered ground-breaking (like the BK-117 or the CRJ-200) but is very accurately detailed. Even at this late stage, I doubt many people have anything to go on beyond the screen shots we've all seen. Unless you know a beta tester, who is giving you feedback... Or is this 'rumour' coming from another payware developer? Spreading rumours about an unreleased product isn't likely to encourage developers to give you pre-release samples, quite the opposite I suspect. cw7
We've implemented a policy of not taking aircraft or scenery files from developers for purposes of reviews. That means we'll be reviewing fewer payware files as we shift emphasis, but our independence won't be compromised either, as we will continue reviewing aircraft and scenery. We'll anonymously buy our copies from the best source when the file is released. As to the source of the rumors; it's our job to dig and find out information, and equally our responsibility to not talk about our sources. As others have pointed out, the possibility for disinformation exists in any such communication, which is why I classified the information as rumor. It's certainly not fact until verified by experience and analysis. That said, I think the file is going to be a well received hit and will readily exceed expectations.
