The B737 Classic Project

Hi all,

I'm VERY happy to get the honor of announcing this project which I know many have been waiting for :)

(In-sim shot, not a render)

A new team called IXEG - International X-Plane Engineering Group has been formed to make this
wonderful classic aircraft.
The team is handpicked for the job, and, as the name indicates consists of mainly engineers which also
have very long experience with X-Plane. In addition we have an in-type captain as consultant.

I'm sure the Boeing 737 Classic needs no further introductions since most of you probably have
been in one. To be a bit more precise, it will be the B737-300.

It will have it all, FMC, full plugin driven systems, and the most accurate flightmodel ever made for any heavy in X-Plane.
Visually it will be state of the art, so will also the 3D panel with manipulators and whatever v10 might contain of new features.

The answer to the question most of you probably are thinking of right now ...
ETA is Christmas 2011 :)

Absolutely been waiting for this. Who are the team members?

At this point we can't say too much about FPS performance, however we will definitely make
it enjoyable on an "average" hardware system. Thats what we the developers have anyway,
and we off-course want to fly this as well :)

There is however little doubt that the next generation HI-DEF XP aircraft will require
more from hardware than we have been used to. Also v10 itself will require more than v9
if history repeats itself. So if one has been considering hardware investments, the next
year might be a good time to do it...

Ok, a few more preview shots.

All panel and gauge moving parts will be represented by modelled and animated object
geometry and, naturally, be manipulated to match all functionality of the gauges found in the real 737-300.

Example;
One should not only be able to take basic actions like setting barometric pressure but also, for instance,
move the white airspeed bugs on the ASI and switch the target airspeed bug (amber one) between manual and auto mode.

Since X-Plane 10 will most likely offer new and more potent ways of lighting geometry in the sim,
it's too early to show exactly what panel lighting in the IXEG 737 Classic will look like.
This pic is a prototype showing one possible approach to night lighting.
The light effects in this pic are "baked" into the object texture and no rendering tricks have been used."

We'll upload more previews soon - so stay tuned ;)

Ever seen a grown man cry?

Only way to make it more realistic would be by adding fingerprints on the glass next to the speedbugs and BARO knob; please do not let this slow you down.

Ok, as some might have guessed already, the flightmodel is my main department on this project,
so feel free to ask any questions concerning it.

I can already assure you that this B737 will be FAR beyond anything you ever seen on performance
in a heavy in XP ever!
The internal performance beta is at v16 at the moment. Due to the accuracy of this project
and the incredible material and resources we got, we already have discovered a couple of XP issues.

I'll show you an example of what we are working on;
Have you ever looked at a real takeoff/rotate and compared it to XP's heavies today and found them to be unrealistic?
Well, not anymore :)
- Watch out for tailstrike! You better rotate at the right speed and pitchrate 3 deg/s!
- Remember, the elevator gets into ground effect, so you need that little extra pull to lift off like in real.

Check it out;

NOTE: This exterior model is the XPFW 737 and will offcourse be replaced with a new all object exterior

In the first post he says it will.

With regard to the flightmodel, we will use plugins in areas where X-Planes model is
not capable of giving the results we want. One good example is the flap model in XP which
is very primitive. All flap settings will now have the exact Cl/Cd and Cm as in real.
There are other areas as well, like the engine model where we will improve the flightmodel.
