Yogi Beer
Just wondering if there is a post/forum/site where any news or rumors of what may or will be enhanced/included in X-Plane 10 is available. More out of curiosity than anything else. Txs (Hope I'm not out of line here asking that....)
Lemon
Nobody really knows besides Austin and the others at LR, so there isn't much to discuss yet.

Mad Wolfe
Thats like saying 'How long is a piece of string'. A few presumed things are better ATC, etc but its all up to Austin.

John Lamb
I am hoping that Austin and Ben figure out how to get additional cores to calculate object positions and stuff. I'd love to get a Mac Pro some day for "actual work" that I can already justify, but it was disheartening to see a work computer (am an admin - so I could do this) run x-plane with the shaders all on, with 16x FSAA and anistropic filtering... the graphics card barely even registered that x-plane was there. Then you turn objects on, and the frame rate just dies. I understand why its currently like this... I understand that this is not an "embarrassingly parallel" problem to solve... I'd keep x-plane with the current features (ok, maybe weather that had gradual changes and actual weather fronts and cumulonimbus clouds...) if... I could fly through the NY metro area without it grinding to a halt. Austin, Ben, etc... this is not a complaint! I am just saying that if an 8 core mac pro could be fully utilized with x-plane, I'd be really thankful and my future wife would be very angry at our lack of bank account. To say x-plane is CPU limited at the moment is a massive understatement. But i know its not your fault... I just think like, apple should bring in austin for a crash course on parallelism, put a bunch of development money behind him and then use x-plane as a showcase... dpny
Rumors? Absolutely. X-Plane 10 will beam the graphics straight into your visual cortex.
austin
hullo! i plan to have x-plane 10 ready for christmas this year. the new stuff is going to be pretty mind-blowing.. while i will not be touching the flight model too much (i mostly like it the way it is now), we will have new lighting and fogging and weather rendering effects (with a new global weather system to drive those effects), a new suite of planes, a new build of the global scenery (that i call the 'plausible world'... while it cannot be just like the real world, it is supposed to look 100% 'plausible'), and new artificially-intelligent air traffic control. so, it is going to be HUGE.... we build on the existing great flight model with much improved rendering and weather and a-i atc... with a new fleet of planes to zoom around in that environment. austin

[/quote] Try turning the "rendering distance" setting from "default" (which is the highest setting!) to "very low." I'm on an 8-core Mac Pro and it works very smoothly that way, with pixel shaders on and textures set to "extreme res," even in dense metropolitan areas. brian young
Have to be a pretty serious plugin to do the probing properly, if the rumours I've heard are true (this is a bare-faced lie, since my time with "Destroy All Humans", and its successor - I make no apology for the mis-statement, however).
