fav TV or Movie machine to model

As one of the threads was drifting in this direction, post requests and links to craft that you would like to see modeled in X-Plane. 3 view drawings would be nice, good pics are OK. Also ideas on how to model those great effects like verticle smoke from moving space ships. (do we have to show the strings and wires??) The final models need not fly or float, just look good.

OK... I read the other thread.

My Top 10 fictional aircraft that I'd like to see in X-Plane (in no order):

Buck Rogers' TV Starfighter

Warhawk from Buck Rogers TV show (I've started this)

Orion III shuttle from 2001 (I've been working on this for a long time)

Snowspeeder from Empire Strikes Back

T-16 Skyhopper from Star Wars

SST from Johnny Quest (I've started one, but anyone's welcome to it)

Imperial Shuttle from Return of the Jedi

Marine Dropship from Aliens (been done recently)

Eagle or Hawk from Space 1999

DangerMouse's SkyHopper

It's tempting to request a whole load of spaceships, but in the end these won't work because most of them don't have wings of any sort - best move to Space Combat for that.  So no Defiants or Millenium Falcons!

I reprint my original list with some amendments (I kept going "oh yeah, I forgot about...", plus I've tried to stick to craft that will work within the atmosphere in some sense) -

Red's Top Ten List of Fictional Aircraft That Need XP'ing (In No Particular Order)

1. Thunderbird 1  (film version)

2. Batwing (Tim Burton-era)

3. Cap Scarlet Angel Fighter

4. Buck Rogers Starfighter ("Gil Gerard in a corset" era)

5. 1930's Flash Gordon Stratosled or Zarkov's Rocket or Ming's Rocket

6. Space Above & Beyond Hammerhead

7. Terminator Hunter-Killer (T1/T2 scale - it seemed to shrink in T3!)

8. Star Wars B-Wing (there's a challenge!)

9. The Nebuchadnezzar from The Matrix

10. Airwolf (modified Bell 222)

Discounting Airwolf (which really did fly), I think TB1, Buck's Starfighter and the SA:AB Hammerhead would probably fly the best, although the Hammerhead's intakes will be a headache to reproduce (yeah, I've had a shot).  The B-Wing could work, but landing it would be an interesting conundrum.  The Batwing's complex airfoil shape would be a challenge, but it's a cool looking machine (forget the Joel Schumacher "flying wrought-iron fencing" design that followed).

There's pretty good pictures of a lot of these craft on this website - http://www.fantastic-plastic.com/pop_culture.htm

I researched the nebuchadnezzar a while back.. it would be cool :)

But I didn't see any wings on it? ???

Okay, Mr Pedantic, fair comment  :P .  But it was an atmospheric craft in the movies - Morpheous called it a "hovercraft".

I was just trying to make the distinction between that and the Starship Enterprise or a Star Destroyer who aren't atmospheric craft by any stretch of the imagination and would be better suited to Space Combat.

*shrug* but then again, if somone did the Defiant, I would still have a fly  :;):

the Nebuchadnezzar uses moveable anti-gav pads to move around in the tunnels, so they can position the pads to keep themselves from hitting the walls etc. Basically a 'hovercraft' I suppose. I'll look a bit silly flying around in the open air, like a cheaply rebuilt shuttle craft from star wars ...

Someone did the Batwing for 5.66, once...it still flies in 7.x, after conversion.

And according to the "eTerminator" site, the Aerial Hunter-Killer from T1/T2 and the Heavy Assault Aerial Hunter-Killer craft seen in T3 are two different aircraft, which would explain the apparent size differences.

By the way, the Aerial Hunter-Killer page above includes a three-view diagram. Size and weight would have to be "guesstimated," but shouldn't be impossible.

Me, I'd like to see any number of Star Wars craft. Like the—

Republic Gunship (From Episode II)

A STAP (Episode I)

A Sith Infiltrator (Darth Maul's ship)

And...does anyone remember the "Super-X" aircraft from Godzilla 1985? Would anyone be interested in that one, if I built it?

A star destroyer would actually fly rather well at high mach number...

I rather like the buck rogers fighter. I might have to have a go at that sometime. I don't do textures, but I could certainly build the flight model if anybody wants to help with the other stuff :D

In the 3rd movie it goes above ground and out in open air.. :)  the main reason it doesn't stay there should be apparent if you saw that movie :P

Oh oh oh.. the Hammerhead!!! Gosh do I miss that series... :`( I would like to have a go on the 3D on all of them.. though I will never find the time.. Excellent 3Views though..

For the Orion III: 3 View

I had something similar to flight of the navigator in XP5.. took me 10 sekonds from North of sweden to central germany.. no way of steering without going orbital though..

This one is from an old TV series, that I used to watch when I was young. I can't remember anything about it, no names, dates, nothing! Only one exception: the bus. I made it long ago, and stoped working on it cause it eventually made X-Plane crash.

And the imperial shuttle I've worked on a while ago, but I also stoped working on this one. In this case, it was the lack of the ability to make the wings move togheter that got me to stop working on it.

The Hammerhead shouldn't be that hard to do. I could give it a try ... in about a decade when I'll finally get some freetime! :D

It's one of my favourite craft - I loved that series because the equipment was all so "realistic" and low-tech.

I've got a film clip on my computer of an interview with the two directors of S:AAB and they were talking about the full-scale Hammerhead mockup they had built for the series - apparently it was sitting on the dockside waiting to be shipped to the US.  One evening a Russian freighter docked and that night two of the crew were arrested taking photographs of it - they thought it was some top-secret new fighter plane!

Oh yeah - how about Gantu's ship from Lilo & Stitch  :P  oh the joys of having a two-year old...

I have drawings and pictures for the Buck Rogers Starfighter, if someone chooses to tackle it.

I think someone did the Blue Thunder helo once upon a time, perhaps in XPL 5.

Gantu's ship from Lilo & Stich would be a good one.  Same with Jumba's bigger, red ship.:)

Like Airwolf, Blue Thunder was basically an existing helo (an Aerospatiale Gazelle in this case) with a few fibreglass widgets glued on...

Yeah, Jumba's ships is pretty smart too.  What about Arki's ship from the  Final Fantasy movie?  That looked cool and complicated.

Cool clip.. :)  Thanks Code Red

I would love to make Akis ship!! If someone could get a 3view.. I will make it fly.. no textures though.. ??? I have a copperhead, the light transport craft, but its very basic.. infact rudimentary.. but same there.. if anyone could get a 3 view I will take the time!

:P

Some craft from B5 that I'd love to see in X-Plane:

One of those triangular Raider ships (built for atmospheric combat)

The Thunderbolt (Basically a Starfury that can fly in atmosphere)

And of course, the ultimate challenge: The White Star :D

The last two (and maybe the first) should not only be able to fly on Earth, but Mars as well :)
