Installed the latest version of this machine and now have no control over views and just get gibberish instead of a useful experience.

As will it will not work with X Camera worth a darn. Is there some hidden controls somewhere to turn off whatever the heck is interfering with signs here?

Does anyone have actual success with this thing> before upgrading I cold at lest have a flight using Quikck Views  Now that seems impossible.

this thing is raved about by some plots but fo rah life of me this is not my experience.

Is the developer tracking comments on this forum?

Unfortunately, this dev doesn't pay no attention to this forum.  I just can't believe they have the gull to put out another 172 (G1000) with this one being a hot mess.  Imagine all the people that will buy it and expect a different result.

Hello Geoffcfp

I have been using AFL 172 since first released. I am instructor IGI and RW pilot. It is still the best 172 for XP and FS2020 for that matter. It is well worth the $30. It does take some getting used to because it is a complicated study aircraft. It really depends on your experience as a pilot or even a sim pilot. I use it on a 3 wide monitor with Air manager touchscreen below. It works perfectly for me. You can see my specs below.

1) Make sure you understand "Walkaround" mode. Turn it off and on in the AFL side menu. (2 checkbox areas) Views or X Camera sometimes will not work properly in Walkaround mode due to animations etc. People often forget they are in walkaround mode. I use the stock Quick Views. I am not sure how X Camera works with AFL. Just turn off x camera until problems are resolved. Any additional plugins can always interfere.

2) AFL is a quality dev but they are very small. I doubt if they have time to respond to forum posts.

3) Turn off G-effects in Camera menu. I have had issues with this before. They aren't really necessary. Make sure all Failures are off. Use autostart until you understand the correct starting procedure. Use the POH. I have free Cessna 172sp POH PDF download on my website at aviationknowledge.org as well as other AFL info. Start at same location at same airport same clear weather. etc Delete and reinstall AFL you will need serial number Upgrade and use Vulcan.

XP and AFL 172 are real flight simulators and they take time to learn. You might have to go thru an elimination of plugin interference procedure. In other words turn off all plugins. This is not unique to AFL

Good Luck

Thank you again for this. I am working through some of the material on your website as well. With respect to your comments above I am not sure I understand about turning off the Walk Around in TWO boxes? Also it seems with the latest upgrade it pipes up with 'exterior mode is active Not sure what that is all about but I do not want it active. How do I kill that?

You also mention above about starting in the same place etc and then reinstall the pro. Please emplane what that is all about. That one has me a little confused

Thanks a lot. When this model works it is a joy. Getting it started properly not so much. will keep trying.

I am in agreement with you about the quality of this add-on. It's definitely study level for a student pilot who is flying a real c172 r or s model with the six pack. You can easily transfer the knowledge from the sim to real life. The issue I have with the latest version is that the trim doesn't work. I had to go back to v 1.6 and that one works like a charm, but I stuck with XP 11.41 an maybe that's why the latest version doesn't work so well. But the addon is excellent!

I just did a clean install of XP 11.53, and the trim works. So it was an 11.41 issue and not an issue with the airplane. It's a good one!

Howdy Geoffcfp;

What I meant by the 2 checkboxes: In AFL Camera menu there is a Simulated Walk Checkbox and above that there is a Go Outside/Inside checkbox. The simulated walk is an AFL feature that allows one to do a walkaround checklist with animations. Many standard XP features/views DO NOT work in this mode. It is simply for AFL animations when you click on something during the walkaround. The go outside/inside checkbox toggles this walkaround feature (exterior mode is active) on and off. I have it setup to a key binding  (shift backslash ) combo. The simulated walk checkbox must be checked in order for go outside/inside toggle and animations to work.

BTW I own FS2020 and it is not even close to AFL 172 or P3D A2A in features as a 172 study aircraft for RW filght simulation and training.

AFL has an 172NG coming out with analog and glass cockpit. Looking forward to that. Should be completely updated for Vulcan.

When people have problems with sims they should eliminate all the variables. Do a clean install of XP 11.53. Do a clean install of aircraft. Turn off all plugins and addons until problem is solved. Yes, LR and XP has gone thru a quirky period with upgrade to modern Vulcan. This makes it very difficult for small 3rd party companies, like AFL,  to keep up with changes. As I mentioned XP is still a better, pro level, FAA approved, multi monitor, almost stutter free,  flight simulator as compared to FS2020.

Please realize your problems in getting things working are substantially more likely to be "your problems" and probably do NOT reflect the actual nature of the add-on, scenery or aircraft.  Making broad statements, condemning things in whole, rather than actually requesting assistance in solving your problem is just impolite.  This attitude is an "artifact" of online communications, if you said these things or presented with this attitude to an actual live person you might be at risk of nasal trauma.

It can not be repeated too often, X-Plane is NOT a flying game, it is a flight simulator and flying is a complex activity. Simulating a complex activity is also complex.
