	Hi everyone,
</p>

<p>
	Since I just discovered that airframe de-icing doesn't work on my aircraft anymore, I thought I'd best check if I had checked the "Anti-Ice Equipped" checkbox in "Special Equipment" ... but it's gone.
</p>

<p>
	Where did it go? Is it still needed? If not, what's the secret to get anti-icing to work?
</p>

<p>
	My aircraft has a single "ins_ice_surf_boot" switch. The "frame", "lwing" and "rwing" data-out values show ice accumulating even if the switch is "on".
</p>

<p>
	Many thanks in advance!
</p>

<p>
	Regards,
</p>

<p>
	I've been trying to add a searchlight to a plane. I've added a spot light at max brightness and this is working well on land. However as soon as I go over water it stops illuminating. Can't even tell if it's on or off except by going outside the plane and looking at the nose.

	In November of 2019 I set out to update a Grumman Gulfstream G-159 that was created for xPlane v7. It's been an educational experience as I've learned a bit about how xPlane, PlaneMaker and Blender do and in some cases don't, work. I acquired a Gulfstream I Flight Manual and Rolls Royce Dart 529 Operating Manual (It's amazing what you can find on eBay.) so I have good data to work from and recently reached a point were I have a credible 2D aircraft livery and flight model.  Now, I've decided to explore the possibility of transitioning to 3D.
</p>

<p>
	I have several years of experience with Autodesk Fusion 360, so I thought I'd try building a full scale 3D model which could be brought over into xPlane 11 via Blender. Fusion can export into both Wavefront .obj and Filmbox .fbx file formats - both of which are importable by Blender.
</p>

<p>
	As a preliminary exercise I built a reference trident that was oriented to Fusion 360's default co-ordinate system. That was exported into both .obj and .fbx formats and imported into Blender. Those are the first three images shown below. One of the first things I noticed was that references to the appearance and material properties made it from Fusion into Blender when I used the .fbx file format.
</p>

<p>
	Another discovery was that in exporting the Blender file into xPlane I could add "paint" to a part by manually editing the xPlane .obj8 file to add a TEXTURE directive pointing to a .png file that is simply a 64 pixel x 64 pixel .png "paint chip".  64 x 64 pixel size was chosen because making it any smaller didn't reduce the file size below 1kb. (I’ll discuss pixel pitch and scaling in depth later.)
</p>

<p>
	The rendering engine seems to simply tile the color square onto the object's mesh.  I use a pixel size of 100 per inch because it simplifies the math when calculating object dimensions; A 20.48" wide x 10.24" high panel is 2048 x 1024.
</p>

<p>
	I believe this is possible because the  .obj file which xPlane2Blender creates seems to conform to the Wavefront .obj file format which optionally <em><strong>includes</strong></em> <em><strong>texture coordinates.  It's not a full UV image Unwrapping but provides enough UV data to enable the rendering engine to paint the part.</strong></em>
</p>

<p>
	For objects which only need one color applied everywhere this seems like an easy way to get a monochrome paint job. By taking a different approach to building the aircraft’s geometric model I've been able to obtain some quick and easy results.
</p>

<p>
	Quoting from that document;
</p>

<div title="Page 2">
	<p>
		<em><span style="font-size:10pt;">Vertices for a polygonal model in an OBJ file can have three types of vertex data.</span></em>
	</p>

	<p>
		<em><span style="font-size:10pt;">v</span><span style="font-size:10pt;">: Defines the position of the vertex in three dimensions (x,y,z). Three floating point numbers. <strong>Required.</strong></span></em><br />
		<em><span style="font-size:10pt;"><strong>v</strong>n</span><span style="font-size:10pt;">: </span><span style="color:rgb(0%,0%,93.33%);font-size:10pt;">Vertex normal</span><span style="font-size:10pt;">, a directional vector associated with a vertex, used to facilitate smooth shading. Three floating point numbers. <strong>Optional. </strong></span></em>
	</p>

	<p>
		<em><span style="font-size:10pt;">vt</span><span style="font-size:10pt;">: Texture coordinates, also known as </span><span style="color:rgb(0%,0%,93.33%);font-size:10pt;">UV coordinates</span><span style="font-size:10pt;">. Typically two floating point numbers (u, v). These coordinates are used during rendering to determine how to paint the three-dimensional surface with pixels from a 2D texture map, e.g. an image in a format such as PNG. <strong>Optional. </strong></span></em>
	</p>

	<p>
		Over the next few days I'm going to post comparisons of some simple Fusion exported Wavefront .obj files and the xPlane .obj8 files and explore a few questions regarding possible ways to preserve the material and texture information thru the entire Fusion 360 to xPlane .obj8 file workflow.  Fusion 360 has plugin support. Perhaps there is a way to do a Fusion 360 to xPlane plugin?
	</p>

	<p>
		I  also note that the CAD models which Fusion 360 creates have far more triangles in their meshes than xPlane needs. I've begun experimenting with using Bender's Clean/Decimation transformation to reduce the polygon count and cut the .obj8 file sizes down.  So far, a 33% to 66% reduction seems workable.
	</p>

	<p>
		If you have coding experience and might be interested in pursuing this, post a comment here or email me.
	</p>

	My first Planemaker project (XP11.55) is a cabin class twin Cessna with a pair of 300HP, fuel injected engines driving three-bladed props.  Acceleration is realistic, but there is a pronounced right turning tendency during the takeoff roll.  After liftoff there is a strong, uncommanded roll to the right, which takes about half available aileron to correct.  The roll is still present even gliding with both engines at idle.  Everything is symmetric (wing section size and incidence).  Fuel tanks have same lateral offsets but opposite sides, as do the engines and nacelles.  I tried removing the tip tanks, but the same result.

	Hey! I Have absolutely no idea how tp use Plane Maker, Code or any of that technical stuff. So I was told for the Vision Jet's controls too be less sensitive on the ground, So how do disable NSW for the Vision jet in Plane Maker or any other way?

	Okay so I have this plane I designed, have been tweaking it for like a year.  Something happened recently that messed up not only the plane but X-Plane in general, so I took X-plane back to defaults.  Now my plane works fine except for two things; one, it doesnt start with engines running.  Two, if I go to an external view, there's a ton of static coming out of the speakers.  Internal view, silent.  It used to have engine noise both inside and out.  And whats up with the engines not running, even though the Plane Designer setup says start with engines running.  Thoughts?

	I created an .OBJ file of an engine cowl, for a plane I designed.  Somehow I managed to load it into X-plane scenery.  I noticed on loading a flight, the last thing loading would be the name of my airplane, even though I selected a different airplane to fly.  So the other day I'm flying the BD5J at my local airport, and there was the cowl, floating above the runway about 200 feet up!   I've searched for the file in world editor, it's not there.  How could I have gotten this into X-plane?!  Any thoughts on how to remove it?

	Okay. So, my favorite twin (xplane) is the Baron B58. In the early Betas there was a problem with excessive shock flex or wing flex such that a slightly bouncy landing or dive on braking would strike prop and knock engines out. Well LR fixed that okay by B.06. In the meantime, I bought the EFM enhancement which is more forgiving. Now, I have the Simcoders REP and it is NOT forgiving. Back to very gentle with this.
</p>

<p>
	My queston is which parameters in Planemaker govern Gear Shock firmness or Wingflex?

	Thanks

	So I thought I might enjoy learning pm, as much just to see what's behind the scenes more than planning on being a pro at it.  I researched several tutorials, and the basic info start.  I've done the Photoshop 3view layer method, and cropped the views as close as I am able.  On the first fuselage view, I am able to get the sections to fit and line up well.  Then when I go to the next page, I can't make the background photo long enough to fit the "lines".  I tried just dragging them shorter but that doesn't work because it changes the length of the fuselage.  Is it just something I'm doing or a problem with the program (version 11.xx XPlane).<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="//media.invisioncic.com/c334187/monthly_2023_04/PM1.jpg.99b938e94008205e1f791464959dd898.jpg" data-fileid="765813" data-fileext="jpg" rel=""><img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="765813" data-ratio="56.30" width="1000" alt="PM1.thumb.jpg.7e3d369ade7935ce998aff663478eab1.jpg" data-src="//media.invisioncic.com/c334187/monthly_2023_04/PM1.thumb.jpg.7e3d369ade7935ce998aff663478eab1.jpg" src="https://forums.x-plane.org/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></a><a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="//media.invisioncic.com/c334187/monthly_2023_04/PM2.jpg.53cdf6a28d7538bfac8cc3b2e37f6026.jpg" data-fileid="765814" data-fileext="jpg" rel=""><img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="765814" data-ratio="56.30" width="1000" alt="PM2.thumb.jpg.91f74c0ae5675077b6cc8f24a9b166de.jpg" data-src="//media.invisioncic.com/c334187/monthly_2023_04/PM2.thumb.jpg.91f74c0ae5675077b6cc8f24a9b166de.jpg" src="https://forums.x-plane.org/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></a>

	I'm struggling with detailing an aircraft design, and have tried to use the 172 model as a reference.  First question is how do you get the cowl inlets?  They're not in the base fuselage design, but look very realistic from any angle.  So is this all done with the texture wrapping the base model?  Also the steps on the struts and fuselage, such fine detail.  How are these things done?  The tutorial referenced in this forum returns a 404 file not found.  Any advice appreciated!

	Hello,
</p>

<p>
	I'm messing around with jet aircraft in Plane Maker with XP12, and after creating my first jet and configuring what feels like every section, I get this error in X-Plane when I load it up:
</p>

<pre class="ipsCode">0:00:26.587 E/SYS: MACIBM_alert: I have found an engine with ZERO RPM for the GREENLINE RPM entered in Plane-Maker!
0:00:26.587 E/SYS: MACIBM_alert: Hard to get max power at zero RPM!
0:00:26.587 E/SYS: MACIBM_alert: Fix this in Plane-Maker!
0:00:26.587 E/SYS: MACIBM_alert: Aircraft/EB-52 Megafortress/EB-52 Megafortress.acf
0:00:26.587 E/SYS: MACIBM_alert: C:/GitLab-Runner/builds/2dtum6M9/0/x-plane/design/source_code/engine/fm/fm_init/init_pln.cpp:636
</pre>

<p>
	I don't know where this "greenline RPM" value is. I saw that there is one for other types of engines, but the Jet 2 Spool type doesn't have a section to enter that in.
</p>

<p>
	What am I missing here? What did I forget to configure?<br />
	I can provide the .acf if necessary.

	Relative newbie here, trying to put a white surface on an object.  It shows up as gray in Plane Maker.  Making a .PNG of any other color seems to work, although what shows in plane maker isnt exactly the same shade.  But making a white .PNG shows up as gray.  What am I doing wrong?

<p>
	I have created a SL30 NavCom radio for my 2D panel and was in the process of trying to enable a few more features before getting stuck.
</p>

<p>
	<img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="257742" src="//media.invisioncic.com/c334187/monthly_2017_03/SL30.jpeg.4ed296780661b6d9fabd3b7a0cdbb8cb.jpeg" alt="SL30.jpeg.4ed296780661b6d9fabd3b7a0cdbb8cb.jpeg" data-ratio="20.87" loading="lazy"></p>

<p>
	When pressing TF, this should enable me to see the course TO my VOR or the radial FROM the VOR.
</p>

<p>
	I know that X-Plane is capable of providing this radial as it is seen here on the 530 screen; it says VOR   LBY.   The RAD is 150 degrees.
</p>

<p>
	<img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="257741" src="//media.invisioncic.com/c334187/monthly_2017_03/530.jpeg.566683505814b9fdcaac293bcf67a70b.jpeg" alt="530.jpeg.566683505814b9fdcaac293bcf67a70b.jpeg" data-ratio="100.61" loading="lazy"></p>

<p>
	I cannot find a dataref anywhere that lets me come up with a RAD of 150 degrees (or whatever is showing on the Garmin 530, just using 150 as an example) when I am trying to use in with my newly created T/F button on my SL30.   I have searched through "heading", "course", "bearing" and "RAD" datarefs (and RAD is huge...it included all the radio references) in my DataRef Viewer window.   I have looked now for two days....I give up.
</p>

<p>
	Would anyone have any ideas on which dataref I could use to give me the current radial from a VOR?  Or any other technique to get this value?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Thanks,
</p>

<p>
	Terry

	I'm having a go at making a super simple aircraft with planemaker. Since I am a complete noob at this, I'm just making a 2D cockpit, using the default textures from the instrument list. Here's the thing: all the buttons and levers are successfully driving the datarefs (I can see the values changing in Dataref Editor), but they aren't having any effect on any of the aircraft systems. e.g. turning on the battery doesn't move the voltmeter, engaging the starter doesn't start the engine etc. If I start my plane using the "quick engine start" command, the plane starts up beautifully and then all the controls behave as expected e.g. switching off the magnetos or the battery shuts down the engine, and re-engaging them turns the engine back on. I've obviously missed something crucial in planemaker but I am clueless to what it could be; none of the decade old tutorials or even the manual appear to hint at what I might have done wrong. Please can anyone help?
