The Handy Objects Library is a library of objects that I hope you find useful in your scenery creation projects in World Editor (WED).

The vast majority I have created myself from scratch using Sketch Up and GIMP for textures, with a few models taken from the Sketch Up 3D Warehouse with the original author's permission.

To install the library, download the file, unzip the folder and place directly into your Custom Scenery folder. If you already have a previous version of the library installed it should just overwrite or add files as required. However, if you are in any doubt I advise you delete the previous version and re install the latest.

A big thanks to leovox01 and brosenguy for allowing me to include their objects in the library, and also to William T., Laurentiu, PM3D, UilianS, Pavel Vanicek, Men In Black, LVS12122, 'R' & SchreiberBike for use of their SketchUp models. Also thanks to Hans_Petter for his help with the horses and ponies, Marginal for his Sketchup2XPlane utility, and most recently WHIRLWIND for sharing a few photo textures which I have used to create a batch of new objects.

I have recently started a project to re-texture as many existing objects as I can, hopefully improving their look in the process, so please watch out for further updates in the coming weeks and months.

I really hope you find my library useful, and feel free to send me suggestions on new objects.

Have fun!!

Use the farm objects a lot and when something comes up I need to place seems like I always find what I need in The Handy Objects Library.

Response from the author:

Real glad it is helpful, and thanks for the comments. I started the library as I could never find what I wanted at the time in existing libraries, so thought I would make my own…. still not done yet, the occasional object pops up from time to time. On some future wet and wintery day I plan to start to improve the textures now my skills are a wee bit better….always something to learn.😎

i truly appreciate all the efforts put in by the many contributors of all these libraries we take for for granted on the Xplane community. I am facing an issue though, upon updating to the newest version i inadvertently deleted the old folder. now i have a multitude of airports warning me that they don´t have the necessary library to run properly. Does anyone know of a repository for old versions or a process to overcome this? I know it´s just an informative message, but still, i would like to try to get rid of  it. Thanks.

Response from the author:

Sorry to hear you are having issues. If you just install the latest version it should work just fine as nothing is removed as the updates are made.

Can you send me your scenery.ini and log.text files so I can have a look for you? Thanks..

I have just installed you fine scenery library.  Thank you for your effort, here. I have not had experience on building of scenery but what I read here speaks highly of your work. Do you have any favorite scenery packages which utilize your work either offered on this forum or payware?  I still have to learn how to make scenery myself, but I would like the opportunity to use what other people may offer.

Response from the author:

Thanks for the feedback, have a look at Longside, Tresco, Burnham or Glenrothes.

To be honest any of my scenery will have items there. Longside is the most recent update.

Hope you like them.

I have not been able to review this yet as I am not sure where to install the scenery object currently stored in the "The Handy Objects Library located in X plane 11 Custom Scenery. Perhaps you can expand on "place them in your scenery as you require"??

Where??

Thanks in anticipation

Response from the author:

If you are using the Library as required by a scenery author you do not have to do anything other than place the main library folder in your Custom Scenery Folder. If you are creating scenery, however, you have to use WED or Overlay Editor to select and place objects in the scenery you are creating.

The library has a great many files with incorrect case matches between the library.txt and the files. This makes little difference on Windows and Mac systems (ones without case sensitive file systems, at least), but it throws a monkey wrench into the works of Linux users. Renaming each file to match the library.txt is going to be a pain.

Update: Very quick response by the developer. Downloading fresh copies of both the library and the scenery calling the library resolved the issue. The logical answer is that I was working off an earlier version... which I swear I had updated last night. Ah, well. Five stars for the library, and five stars for the support by Scottish Wings :D

Great resource library, little too localized for my taste (mostly Scotland and related) and overgrown but high quality asset for the scenery enthusiast!

Definitly part of my palette.
