Does any know where I can get a EH101/CH-149 for
X-plane,maby in the canadian air force skin?
Cormac
Haven't come across one that I recall. It would be a challenge to recreate the visual and flight effect of that chopper's rotor tip design.

Brett?

Mmmm... I might give this a try next week, I will not work the hole week. tongue.gif smile.gif

You can either get the performance or the appearance right for a regular swept tip blade - and for that helicopter you'll have to settle for performance, no way to get that blade tip smile.gif

My UH-60 model used to have swept tips, but comparing the performance setup like that vs with the correct blade twist (which you can't get at the same time due to how the sim works) there was a noticable performance difference - about 3%.

If you need photos/info of the helo goto: http://www.airforce.dnd.ca/equip/equip1b_e.asp

Thanks for the link macaddict_1! I'll work on it today. Should have some results in the coming hours (at least 4-5 I guess).

Starting ... NOW!

Well ... tomorow. For this simple reason: the more I look at the pictures the more I want to make it detailed and perfect. So tomorow I'll go buy a scale model to get the best reference. smile.gif

I'll be my first helicopter in X-Plane ( actually the second, but the first one was 1) a test 2) unflyable after 5.6 ), but it happend to be the kind of helicopter I love: big. So I'll pull out my best with this one. Will make Canadian SAR livery.

Transparent windows, full 3D interior with object, working rear access ramp (open and close), maybe working door on the side (depends on if we get more freedom in terms of weapon-attach-to-stuff), and plenty of details. Of course, I'll work hard on the flight model too!

mmmm... I *MIGHT* try myself at the CH-113 Labrador, afterward. I miss seeing these in the sky.

I dug out some things on the Merlin when I made a post in the aeroplane request forum for a Merlin HM1 - the Royal Navy variant. Although geared towards that type, some of them should be of use to you.

http://www.royal-navy.mod.uk/static/pages/171.html The Royal Navy's official Merlin page.
http://www.royal-navy.mod.uk/rn....&cat=36 The Royal Navy's Merlin and Sea King picture page.
http://www.b-domke.de/AviationImages/EH101.html A page with some very detailed pictures of an Italian Navy EH101.
http://helicopassion.free.fr/bh14.htm Some general photos, including interiors.
http://www.whl.co.uk/ehnspec.html Westland's page: plenty of numbers.

I'd also be interested in doing a Royal Navy paint for it when you're finished.

Saddly the store wont have any until next Friday ... :`(

I'll start it anyway, based on pictures ( thanks for links Scott! ) only. And when I get the model, if I realise that the dimensions are all wrong, I'll just start over again. Scott, I suggest you wait until next week-end before doing any texture! I say that cause I should have flyable, downloadable, version in the beging of the week. Sorry I missed your request Scott! I don't look at the aircraft request thread very often.

DMSR,

If or when you decide to (or can) do a CH-113, let me know as I might be able to help you get started with info/data/specs.

P.S  How come you are an "Old Timer" (Aug 02) and I'm still a "Member" (May 02)   ;-)

Thanks! Are you a CH-113 pilot?

And for that Old Timer thing, I think you have to ask to Mark for that :wink.gif:

For those interested, this page give plenty of interesting details about the Cormorant.

Forget the previous link. This is unbeatable: the Agusta-Westland website. This link to the EH-101 SAR pdf file, which contains lots of specs, 3 views, ghost views of engines and mechanical parts, interior layout for all kinds of mission, etc, etc, etc. I spent many hours searching the web for pictures and info, but this file is incredibly detailed, and it was all there waiting, on the constructor's website. Mmmm, me should look there first next time!

Notice: I will make all existing variants of this superb helicopter. I'm so excited about it that I can't resist! But this will take time of course. First SAR version should be coming out soon. I didn't had much time to work on it yet, but with all that info I gathered, when I'll do it I'll have a finished model in no time!

Tomorow night I should have time to work on it ...

Oh yeah! Here is the link to the pdf file spoken of earlier (almost forgot it!):

Are there any updates on this helo?
What happend do DSMR?

Long story short: I had problems with my computer for one thing (spywares mostly), and I didn't have much time to work on it, or do anything else for that matter. I preffered to leave the computer as it was for a while, for I was about to trow it thru the window! mad.gif I'm sorry that everything has been delayed, but I had way too much of trouble with my computer this last year.

About the helo, I'm working on it right now. I will post a few pictures later. I got the shape of the fuselage mostly done, wheels and rotor are ok too. The flight model isn't as good tho, but I will work on that afterward: I still need a lot of technical data.

I'm working on a v7 for now, which wont be too detailed, and without a detailed cockpit and inside.

Then I will make a v8 with all the details I intended to do at first. And if Austin holds to what he told me, we should be able to have the right shape for the rotor somewhere around v8.10.
USAF
Do you have a painter yet for the helo when its done?

If not then I will gladly texture it for you if you want smile.gif

cant wait to see it,
Ethan

Hi Ethan! Thank you for your offer, it would allow me to start on the v8 CH-149 right after this one is done. I will make a zip file later with all the pictures I have of the Ch-149, if it can be of any help.

I think I will also need help for the flight model ( Brett ?? ), as it's quite horrible so far smile.gif

I'm going to watch TV and sleep for now, then I will continue later today.
brett s
Yeah, I'll be a volunteer test pilot smile.gif
USAF
looks great so far. any idea of a certain livery you may want for this plane? I was thinking a canadian air force livery similar to the colors you already have. I think its Canadas SAR helicopter.

regards,
Ethan

edit: ive found over 50 pictures of the CH-149 from Canada, all large size ans great quality. this will make it very easy to start the paint when the helo is ready because picture finding is usually the strenuous part because you have to find the best pictures. smile.gif

Also ive found a panel shot that may be good for the 149. let me know if you want it.
dmsr
Thanks Brett!

You are right Ethan, the Canadian SAR is the livery I had in mind since I live in Canada. Apparently someone has add new CH149 pictures at airliners.net, last time I checked there wasn't that much.

As for the cockpit, I have some shots too, but it isn't my priority yet.
Corporal Cool
looks good so far dmsr!

HI, i was just browsing the net and found this request about the CH-149. I work at the company that just delivered the cockpit procedures trainer for the Cormorant out in Comox. I have come into alot of knowledge on the aircraft systems, interior etc. I have also been in the aircraft. If you have any questions, I would more than willing to try to help. I also have lots of pictures specs and such.

Tom,
Bong_Joos
Great start, and Linkfinger, could you PM me some of those pictures? I'm just curious.
dmsr
OK came back on it, much closer to the final result. I remodeled some parts, there is still some more remodeling to do. I'm not happy with the tail, but it's hard to get the right shape in X-Plane since it's not symmetric. The exhausts are not the final ones, they're just temporary.

Big pictures, be aware of it!

Hi Tom, thank you for the offer! Any information/picture you can give me is welcome, but I'm affraid I won't be doing a very elaborate cockpit for this one, since it's fo X-Plane 7.61. But I will make a more detailed cockpit ( and more detailed shape, and more detailed texture, and ... ) for X-Plane 8, so your help will definitely ... eh ... help! Here's my e-mail: memorizer@oricom.ca

Note: in the last picture (in my previous post), just FYI, the helo isn't really flying: I made an air drop and took the picture. The tail rotor still needs some adjustments before it can fly. So it's grounded until the tail rotor problem is found, just like the real thing! laugh.gif

P.S. For those who might wonder why I don't make a fully detailed CH-149 for 7.61, it is simply because X-Plane 7.61 does not have enough bodies to model all parts properly, and I don't have much spare time to do both 7.61 and 8.

Additionally, X-Plane 8 should allow us to do special shapes of propellers, like the CH-149's rotor, soon enough, which should also give us ( at least I hope so ) a much more accurate flight model.
coanda
what do you mean by x-plane 8 giving us the opportunity to do things like specially shpaed blades and props? is this on a wishlist or is it becoming a reality?
Arrowhead
Lookin' good DMSR smile.gif
Incidentaly, where did you snap those screenshots. In 'La Belle Provence' or BC?
dmsr
coanda - It's (supposed to be) on Austin's to-do list, but he said it probably wont be implemented before 8.10. I cross my fingers on this one! smile.gif

arrowhead - It's San Bernardino. Still, it's funny you asked that, cause I actually did take some screenshots in BC once, but apparently I lost them, erased by X-Plane that systematically overwrite screenshots. More precisely, it was at BS8 Port Alberni and the surroundings, which is a nice place, 70nm to the West of Vancouver Intl.
EthanPDX
I hear Austin (Finally) fixed the large helo issues, any chance your Cormorant will re-surface?
dmsr
Hi all!

I'm sorry, but I haven't been able to work on the CH-149 in a while. Long story short: I didn't acquired "properly" Windows XP (which is now absolutely needed to run X-Plane), and a few months ago one of my hard drives became unuseable (head is broken or something), unfortunately it was the one with WinXP on it and I haven't been able to reinstall it yet. Even worst, since I'm stuck with Windows 98 I can't access the hard drive that X-Plane is installed on. But I will buy a genuine Windows XP license soon, so I'll be able to continue my work on the CH-149 and other variants of the EH-101.

Again, I'm sorry this project takes so much time, always being delayed by computer malfunctions. Hopefully I'll have enough money to buy a new computer by the end of the summer. In the mean time, please be patient.

Thank you all guys for your support and interest, it makes it all worthwhile. smile.gif
