OpenSceneryX v1.11.0

OpenSceneryX is a library of X-Plane objects, forests and facades that scenery authors can use to make their sceneries richer. If you have been following the progress of the library in this thread then you'll know what it's all about, otherwise, heres a quick summary:

OpenSceneryX is a collection of x-plane scenery objects, contributed by various members of the community free-of-charge. The idea is that the library will grow to become a comprehensive set of high-quality scenery elements for use by any scenery author, reducing the time taken for them to build a custom scenery package and reducing the load on X-Plane. OpenSceneryX is built as a proper x-plane library, which means that authors don't copy objects out of the package into their sceneries, instead they reference the objects directly from the library. So, if several authors have used the same church from the library, that object only needs to be loaded once by x-plane. Every scenery author, whether freeware, shareware or commerical can use the library free of charge.

As an added bonus, tutorials will be available as part of the library (psiteo's excellent animated windsock tutorial is included in this version).

This version uses an installer. Instead of downloading a huge zip file containing the whole library each time, the installer only downloads files that have changed from one version to the next. Grab it here: www.opensceneryx.com. Installers are provided for Mac, PC and Linux. Just download the appropriate version and run it. It asks you where your X-Plane folder is and then it does the rest.

Aussi. As you know, I haven't yet released my GTR scenery yet, where all my object donations will come from for this project. May I assume you'll continue to update this project as new objects come in? I really thank you for staying on this - it's still the best idea to come along in a great while in my opinion.

Absolutely. To be useful, the library must grow to contain a good variety of objects. I'll continue to work on it and manage it for the forseeable future.

Hi all,

Just a quick heads-up. There's been some wonderful support from various people since the first version of OpenSceneryX was released, so expect to see a load of static aircraft as well as more objects in the next version. I am putting it together now, so if you have been thinking about contributing something and want it to be included then send it through to me - either in a PM here at the .org or by email: austin at goudges dot com. I think I should be able to release it this weekend, work permitting, so that's your deadline if you need one!

Hi All,

OpenSceneryX 1.1.0 is now released - The biggest difference is that there are loads more objects, the majority of which are static aircraft for making your airports look busier.

There is now also a website for OpenSceneryX, which contains a preview of every object in the library. Take a look: www.opensceneryx.com

Hi again all,

Mr Pushy here again! The library is still growing fast, with excellent static aircraft contributions from many people, including an A320, B747s in many liveries, B757s, a B767 and a DC-9. I'm preparing the next release (v1.2.0) including all this new stuff so once again, if you've got a bag full of wonderful objects just itching to be zipped up and sent, now would be a great time to do it.

Remember, if you send me anything that includes original designs / work by other people, I must have the details of all copyright holders for every object please, as I will need to contact them individually to get permission. If you made it completely yourself, let me know that too so that it's completely clear.

I must say I am VERY impressed by the support so far, keep it coming!

Hi All,

OpenSceneryX 1.2.0 has now been released. This version has a lot more static aircraft (including a large number of 747s). The library is now almost 100Mb in size.

A big change with this version is that there is now an installer - You no longer have to download a huge zip file containing the whole library, the installer will only download the files that have changed. This makes updating an existing OpenSceneryX install a lot faster for you and a lot friendlier on my server bandwidth!

Versions of the installer are available for Mac, Windows and Linux. This is all brand new, so if you come across any problems with the installers let me know and I'll fix them.

Nice to see that the v8 XPFW 747s are in there.

Conan, if you're watching this thread, feel free to finish up by converting the RR model (a current British, Cathay, etc. set of statics for rundek's Kai Tak would be nice!) and you could also add the Qantas Wunala textures to any of your GE engined 747 objects in the library.
