Engine Sound Problem loss of sounds
#1

I'm running 8.32 on a mac. The engine noises have stopped working suddenly. All other sound work. I've tried reinstalling but no change. Any clues? Are there any other preference files apart from the one in Resources?

I'd:
1) Check the file and folder names
2) Check the sound preferences in X-Plane. Engine sounds are selectable separately, I believe...

By "all other sounds work" do you mean in X-Plane or like in "all other computer sounds work"?
The reason I ask is that a similar thing happened to me a while back - all my X-plane sounds vanished. Computer alert sounds were still there, iTunes was still there, only X-Plane as totally silent.
Eventually I tracked the problem down to a sound editor app I'd been playing with (Audacity) that had re-set the sample rate that the Mac was running at.
The solution (for me) was to go to Applications/utilities/Audio MIDI Setup
Open up the Audio MIDI Setup and alter Audio input and output settings to 44100.0 Hz (mine had been altered to 96000!). After that, restarting XP brought it all back.
Hope that helps

huge shout out to you for this bit of genius. I was frustrated about this sound issue as I'd just updated to the latest Apple Security update. I thought that had done it to my iMac G5. For all I know, it did do it.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for knowing what you're talking about. Huge props to you!

I thank you as well! Same problem, just as you had, and I had also launched Audacity. Changing the Audio MIDI Settings as you suggested brought X-Plane sounds back to life. I was truly baffled until reading your post.
