The Chance-Vought-LTV XC-142 was an experimental tilt-wing VTOL transport which flew in the late-60's.
This model is one of those projects that began many versions of x-plane ago, but is recently updated and polished up a little under XPL 9.31.
There are limits and tradeoffs in simulating this aircraft via PlaneMaker. In the real world, yaw in hover was achieved by deflection of the ailerons. I couldn't simulate this in XP, so I use puffers for yaw. In the real world, the tail rotor would provide pitch control during hover, and then be de-clutched and locked in forward flight. The tail rotor provides lift in hover and is de-clutchable in XP, but does not really provide pitch control. Again, I use puffers for pitch control.
But it's flyable, and enjoyable, and provides some handling challenges. Be wary of nosing over forward when incorrectly transitioning to forward flight, and also wary of some wicked rolling stalls during transitional flight settings.
Happy flying.
** Updated 5 Oct 09:
- Updated Power Settings, Landing Gear, Artificial Stability and More, with some changes based on actual Flight Test Reports.
