Junkers built the first successful commercial carrier airplane in the conservative Ju52/3m. Flying first in 1931 it preceded the Douglas DC3 by about four years and the two sturdy airplanes competed for the next 30 years. Well over 2000 of these were built by Junkers through 1954. Reliability was the most important design consideration. The engines are Pratt Whitney Wasps licensed by BMW. The fixed gear and absence of hydraulics are by choice. The unusual double wing was state of the art aerodynamics found today in slotted flaps. And finally part of the fuselage roof could be removed to load large objects. There are few more versatile than this.
The JU52 model is easy to fly. This might change your mind about tri-motors. More information and flying tips are in the package as an Acrobat file. Model made with X-Plane version 8.64, objects by AC3D.
06/06/08 An Air Show Restoration version of the Ju52 was added to the original download file. It differs only in color. Pilots heads turn with the rudder the wheel moves with the aelerons. Unfortunately the wheel only moves in the view out the pilots left side window. Also included is a better short video of the green version on take off, over the city and landing, Air_Show_Junkers.wmv.
06/26/08 The Zip file is replaced with a fresh one. The original Gray model did not have separate textures for the fuselage left and right sides. To make it easier to modify the Paint file to make commercial livery there is now a left and right side to work on in both the gray or green version.
