Because of its remarkable STOL features, the Fieseler Fi.156 Storch is considered the grandfather of all the modern short or vertical take-off aircraft. The project was begun in 1935 and, in service, the Storch was a valuable element within the German Air Force. The plane served on all fronts throughout the war, almost 2900 were built and they saw service in communication, observation and casualty evacuation duties and proved to be perhaps the most versatile aircraft of the war. The Storch was also built under licence in France and Czechoslovakia. Among the Storch historic flights were the rescue of Mussolini at Campo Imperatore on September 12, 1943, and a flight on April 26, 1945, to carry general Ritter von Greim into the heart of besieged Berlin to Hitler's bunker.
The model is a Fi.156 C-2 which served in Russia in 1941 with the insignia of I./JG 54. The other textures belong to a Storch C-3/Trop, operated in North Africa during 1941 and wearing the insignia of T2.(H)/14. The aircraft is fully animated and the Argus As.10 engine, reproduced in 3d, it is visible from the external.
The controls of the various animations to be set in XPlane are in the Readme Very Important file.
Thanks to Pedro van Leeuwen for his precious help in optimizing the flying dynamics of the Storch so as to make them as near as possible to the real plane.
Thanks to Chris Wraight (Dataroots) for his great sounds of the Argus engine.
Every comment is welcome. Visit my site (http://www.ilmioatelier.com) to see all my xplanes.
Enjoy
